Glencraig Scottish Dance Band - Scottish Country Dances

Sixteen lively Scottish Country Dances from the ever-popular Nicol McLaren & The Glencraig Scottish Dance Band. A fine 6-piece band with lots of oomph and plenty of lift, featuring two accordions, fiddle, piano, bass & drums. Instructions for the dances are given in the booklet.

City Of Stirling Reel; A Shetland Welcome; New Scotland Strathspey; The Plantation Reel; The Pines Of Pitlochry; Alison Rose; The Duke Of Edinburgh's Welcome To Shetland; Birls Allowed; The Glenalmond Gamekeeper; Schiehallion; The Waggle O' The Kilt; The Reel Archie; Father Connelly's Jig; The Duchess Tree; Gaelforce Wind; Never At Sea.

There are many different styles of Scottish Dance (Ceilidh, Reeling, Scottish Country Dance and Old Time are just four of them) and each requires a different nuance from the music to complement the dance. The Glencraig Band are masters of these styles and, therefore, hugely popular. In two previous albums The Glencraig Band featured: "Ceilidh, Are Ye Dancin?" and "The Reel Party, Are Ye Askin'?", followed by "Old Time, Ah'm Dancin".

One of the busiest Scottish Dance Bands on the scene, in recent times the Glencraig Scottish Dance Band has been to Tbilisi, Munich, Brisbane and Melbourne. At home one of their big gigs was playing for a Ceilidh at the British Grand Prix, Silverstone, in 2009.

The Band were winners of the National Association of Accordion and Fiddle Club's Award — "CD of The Year 2007" — which was a great honour and well deserved and in 2009 was nominated (for the second time) for the `Scottish Dance Band' category at the Scots Trad Awards.

The driving force behind the Band is of course their leader Nicol McLaren on lead accordion but he is supported magnificently by Gordon Howe on fiddle, Neil Caul second accordion, Isabelle Hodgson piano, John Sinton double bass and David Bell on drums. Together they produce a really tight sound plus the all-important `lift` to the music, providing that extra excitement for the dancers.

The excellent dance instructions, included in the CD booklet, are by June Templeman.
