GiveWay - Inspired
Youth, confidence, talent, folk, funk and rock - an inspired combination indeed. This very young all-female band can belt out some real heid-bangers, yet just as easily slip into something gentle and very comforting.
"Bursting with evidence of virtuosity, flair and disarming maturity". 'Daily Telegraph.
Founded in 1998, Give Way are four young sisters:
Fiona (19) - Fiddle, guitar, vocals
Kirsty (18) - Piano accordion, two-row button box, vocals
Mairi (16) - Keyboards, piano, vocals
Amy (16) - Drum kit, percussion, vocals
The band plays a heady mixture of Scottish traditional music, from haunting airs to lively jigs and reels, with the occasional song as well.
They won a Danny Award at Celtic Connections (in 2001) and followed this up by winning the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. Their music has matured and expanded since recording their first album - "Full Steam Ahead". Both Fiona and Kirsty are now both studying at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, while Mairi and Amy continue their school studies. Phil Cunningham has again produced the Band's album at Castle Studios, Pencaitland.
