Description

Who said bagpipes were boring? The title of this album may not prepare you for the breadth of material!

This is the third album in the Lothian & Border Pipers’ Society Series of live concerts recorded by Greentrax.  The recordings included on this excellent album are mainly from a concert in Edinburgh Academy during November 2002, with additional tracks from a previous concert in the Royal Academy of Music & Drama, Glasgow in November 1999.

The musicians are:
Finlay MacDonald & Fraser Fifield.  Finlay plays Border & Highland Pipes, while Fraser plays Border pipes and Saxophone.  Both are graduates of The Royal Academy of Music & Drama, Glasgow.  Each has released a solo album and both are widely experienced folk band members

Anne Marie Summers & Stephen Tyler.  Anne Marie plays Low D pipes and G  Border pipes.  Stephen plays the unusual Hurdy Gurdy.  Together, as Misericordia, they perform medieval music.  In their 3 sets they play music for a Running dance, a Jumping dance and a Round dance.

Xuan Muñiz & Simon Bradley.  Xuan plays Asturian bagpipes and Simon plays fiddle.  The duo are both key members of the Asturian band, Llan De Cubel.  The band has toured the world extensively and its music is very highly rated.   Xuan is also a pipe band player.

Rory Campbell & Malcolm Stitt.  Rory plays Border and Highland pipes, Malcolm plays guitar on track 10 only.  Rory is unaccompanied on tracks 11,12 & 13, which were recorded in 1999.  Rory and Malcolm have been members of the very popular Deaf Shepherd since its earliest days.  Both also have experience with other leading Scottish bands.

As with the two previous albums in the series this collection features an interesting mix of types of pipes and piping styles, providing a very exciting album of live tracks.
