Scottish Music Of The RSAMD - The Future Of Our Past

This recording of the students of the RSAMDs Scottish Music course is a spectacular mix of virtuosity and vibrance. A mix of songs and tunes, all to a very high standard. Some of the students are already well-known, award winning acts.

Hailing from Scotland, America, Canada and England, the talented musicians draw their influence from the myriad of Scottish music. The students of the Scottish Music courses are united by a love of traditional tunes and songs, combining fiddles, Highland, Border and small pipes, flutes, whistles, piano, guitar, harp, cello, accordion, bodhran and voice to create their eclectic sound.

No strangers to the Scottish music scene, the course includes accomplished talent like singer Paul McKenna, whose self titled band recently won `Best Up and Coming Act' at the `Scots Trad Music Awards' 2009, and piper James MacKenzie, a finalist of the 2008 Young Traditional Musician of the Year Awards.

A total of 49 students were involved in these recordings so it is impossible to name them all here (see CD booklet for details) but, in addition to Paul and James, Ainsley Hamil (vocals), Claire Hastings (vocals), Louise Bichan (accordion), Alasdair Henderson (Highland bagpipe), Kirsten MacLeod (accordion), Robyn Stapleton (vocals), Hazen Metro (Highland bagpipe), Katherine MacLeod (vocals) and Cameron Drummond (Border pipes) were all given leading roles in the recordings.
