Description

Phil Cunningham has a special connection with Beauly having lived nearby for many years and running his studio from here with internationally acclaimed musicians and singers coming to record.

Not only is he an astonishingly gifted accordion player, but he plays several other instruments, writes tunes used by everybody from dance bands to TV shows (he even composed an entire suite for the percussionist Evelyn Glennie and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra), produces recordings for other musicians, but he is also a genuinely lovely person.

His early days with Silly Wizard (1976-1986) and Relativity saw him tour the world, and record some truly landmark recordings, that are still popular all these years later.

He still regularly tours with his long-time friend and musical partner Aly Bain.

Phil was awarded the MBE in 2002 for services to Scottish Music and was voted Best Instrumentalist in the inaugural Scottish Traditional Music Awards in 2003.

The Bombardier Beetle; Ross Memorial Hospital; Palomino Waltz; Four Stroke Reel; Leaving Glen Affric; Ceilidh Funk; The Wedding; Violet Tulloch's Welcome To The Crask Of Aigas; Ciara McCarthy's Lullaby.

If you like accordion music you can check out our Scottish Accordion CD collection and you may also find accordions used in lots of Scottish Country Dance CDs, or Scottish Ceilidh Dance CDs.
