Description

Winners of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, Bodega have been described as "The best traditional band since Silly Wizard" - high praise, but richly deserved. Exciting, talented young musicians with a superb mastery of their tradition. “Under The Counter” is the title of the eagerly awaited second album from this sensational young Scottish band. Ten mouth-watering tracks which are as daring and inventive as they are creative. Box & Fiddle.

Bodega are Gillian Chalmers (Fraserburgh – pipes, whistle and fiddle); Ross Couper (Shetland - fiddle); Tia Files (Oban – guitar, bass guitar and percussion); Norrie MacIver (Isle of Lewis – lead vocals, accordion and guitar) and June Naylor (Isle of Skye - clarsach). The Band formed in March 2005 and met while they were attending The National Centre of Excellence for Traditional Music, Plockton, Ross-shire. Late in 2005 they won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award and released their debut album, simply titled “Bodega”. Reviewers described the Band as “Fiendishly gifted”, “Supremely gifted quintet”, “Clever and skilful”, “One of the most exciting bands to hit the scene in a long time”, and “Best traditional band since Silly Wizard”!

The first album was described as “Awesome”, “Superbly played and arranged”, “Musicianship excellent”, “Compelling and exciting”, and “With its own unique, tantalising and personalised sound”.
